آپ رضی اللہ عنہ کا نام عمر بن خطاب، لقب فاروق اور کنیت ابو حفص ہے۔ آپ رضی اللہ عنہ کا سلسلہ نسب نویں پشت میں حضور نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے جا ملتا ہے۔ آپ رضی اللہ عنہ سے قبل چالیس مرد اور گیارہ عورتیں نور ایمان سے منور ہوچکی تھیں۔
آپ رضی اللہ عنہ ’’عام الفیل‘‘ کے تقریباً 13 سال بعد مکہ مکرمہ میں پیدا ہوئے اور نبوت کے چھٹے سال پینتیس سال کی عمر میں مشرف بہ اسلام ہوکر حرم ایمان میں داخل ہوئے۔
